The Friends of Laurel Library

Friends groups were formed in the County in the 90’s in response to library budget cuts that reduced staff and hours of operation. The Friends of the Laurel Library was organized in January 1996 to promote the Laurel Branch of the Prince George's County Memorial Library
System. The Friends serve as the “Goodwill Ambassadors” for the library.

Our membership dues, book sale profits and generous donations have provided numerous
amenities for the Laurel Library including:
  - Children's literacy programs
  - Tech Connect & Learning U
  - STEM programs
  - Staff Appreciation activities
  - Special events
  - Book Sales
  - Donation of books to non-profit organizations
  - Monthly Film night (Children’s films and Social Awareness films)
  - Great Decisions Program
(foreign policy series of movies and discussion)
